Clear Aligners Q&A

What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are an orthodontic treatment that corrects malocclusions (bite problems) and straightens misaligned teeth. Unlike braces, clear aligners are removable appliances.

Treatment with clear aligners places gentle force on your teeth, causing them to shift to a better, more aligned position. Clear aligners are made with clear, plastic materials that allow them to blend in with your smile. It’s a discreet way of straightening your teeth.

What are the benefits of clear aligners?

Clear aligners provide a wide range of benefits, including:

Comfort

Unlike traditional braces, which use brackets and wires that may cut your inner cheeks, clear aligners are made of smooth plastic. They won’t cause irritation to the tissues in your mouth and can help reduce sores.

Aesthetics

Clear aligners are discreet when you smile or speak, so you can feel confident when talking with others while receiving orthodontic treatment.

Improved oral hygiene

With braces, removing any food or debris from in between your teeth can be challenging. Clear aligners help simplify oral hygiene. To brush and floss, you can remove your aligners at any time, which allows you to maintain better oral health.

Treatment time

While braces may take 18 months to three years to correct misaligned teeth, clear aligners often provide outstanding results in as little as six to 18 months*.

What is the process for getting clear aligners?

To develop your treatment plan with clear aligners, your Advanced Oral Dynamics provider performs a comprehensive dental exam and teeth cleaning. Then, they use an intraoral scanner to create impressions of your teeth. They send these digital scans to the CandidPro™ lab, which fabricates your custom aligners.

When your clear aligners are ready, you come to the office to try on your new aligners. Your provider also gives you specific instructions to make sure you stay on track with your overall treatment plan.

You should wear your aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day, only removing them to eat, drink, floss, and brush. It’s also important to prevent any buildup of plaque and bacteria by rinsing your clear aligners regularly.
